This time we are catching up with a winner of the Tech Trailblazers Regional Award back in 2014. SQream has come a long way since then, having changed their name from SQream Technologies for starters, and are now in the enviable position of having to find more technical staff to keep up with the firm’s rapid growth. To find out how Tech Trailblazers has helped SQream and to gain some tips for potential entrants we talked to the company’s CMO, David Leichner.

Could you give me a brief description of your company and what your focus is?

SQream DB is an SQL data warehouse which harnesses the power of GPUs to enable fast, flexible, and cost-efficient analysis of massive datasets of hundreds of terabytes or more.

SQream DB integrates seamlessly into enterprises’ MPP ecosystems, whether on-premise or on the cloud, drastically reducing query times and enabling previously unobtainable business intelligence. With SQream, raw data is analyzed directly, enabling data scientists and BI analysts to ask more questions about more data from a variety of perspectives without the need for arduous preparation.

Not only did you win the Regional Cup Award in 2014 but you were also shortlisted in the Big Data category. Did winning the Tech Trailblazers Regional Cup Award help you?

Winning a prestigious award like the Tech Trailblazers Regional Cup Award elicits pride in our team, and provides a great source of motivation.

What words of encouragement would you give to a company which is weighing up whether to enter the Awards?

Focus on your unique offering. Answer this question: “How you are able to address challenges that other companies and products have not effectively been able to solve?” Then focus less on the technological ins and outs of your product, focusing instead on the tangible business value it provides.

Are there any tips you could give a company to help them with entering the awards?

Offer case studies, customer testimonials, and any testimony by third party organizations that can attest to your product’s value.

You should always be ready to pivot according to the changing market.

Do you have any advice in general for start-up companies, trying to survive in the current economic climate?

While you are busy developing your product, make sure to stay in continuous contact with your customers and prospects to understand their needs and pain points, and let their feedback be your primary guide. You should always be ready to pivot according to the changing market.
