Previous Winner – Edgewise Networks

Here at Tech Trailblazers we’re keen to share the success stories of firms who have gone on to greater things after winning their category. Today we’re catching up with Edgewise Networks who won the Cloud Trailblazers Award in 2017 – check out Edgewise Networks in the list of last year’s winners here.

Could you give a brief description of your company and what your focus is?

Edgewise offers cloud workload protection through zero trust. What does that mean? Traditionally, organizations rely on network address-based tools to protect their hybrid cloud environments. Yet, these tools are ineffective at securing internal network communication, stopping lateral movement, and knowing the true identity of the software running. Edgewise eliminates those problems by putting the data first.

By fingerprinting the identity attributes of each workload in your data center/cloud, Edgewise is able to verify whether applications/services meet required criteria, then make a controls decision about what is authorized to communicate. Wrapping applications in a set of policies that travel with your workloads, independent of network topology, Edgewise:

  • Reduces the network attack surface
  • Gives organizations visibility into how applications and workloads communicate in the data center/cloud
  • Helps security teams understand workload risk exposure

How has winning the Tech Trailblazers award helped you?

Having an independent, third-party resource recognize the efficacy and innovation of our product has helped open doors for conversations with enterprise security and DevOps practitioners.

What words of encouragement would you give to a company which is weighing up whether to enter the Awards?

Entering the Tech Trailblazers Awards is a small investment of time compared to the recognition you might receive.

Are there any tips you could give a company to help them with entering the awards?

Clarify your message, stay on message, and don’t try to use too much marketing jargon. Rely on the strength of your product.

Do you have any advice in general for startup companies, trying to survive in the current economic climate?

I think it’s similar to the previous question, combined with: understand the market need and build something that solves a problem for practitioners. Talk to potential customers. Hear their feedback. Be flexible to change.

How is the future looking for you? What’s next for you?

Edgewise is nearing its first year in the market and we’re incredibly excited about the customers who have deployed our technology (and they are too!). We’re continuously working on new features and functionality that will make Edgewise even more effective.

One of the biggest challenges for security practitioners today is the ability to understand, visualize, then manage cybersecurity risk exposure. We just recently launched a new dashboard that does exactly that for cloud workload protection. Our biggest client was so excited he sent a message to his entire company! Wins like that keep us energized as we look forward to our next release…which is on the near horizon.
